This is the Merman canon, the mother of all American stage musicals, and it has been gay culture for 65 years for very good reason: it is the story of Mama Rose, arguably the most fascinating and terrifying stage mother in the history of American theater, and the score is objectively perfect from the overture to the final note. If you love musical theater, this is one you see, full stop, and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center is a beautiful venue that is worth dressing up for. Buy a ticket. Sit close enough to see faces during the big numbers. Let the score do what it does to you, which will be considerable and which you will not be able to stop. Fair warning: you will leave humming Everything's Coming Up Roses for at minimum three days and there is absolutely nothing to be done about that.
