Helmerich Library Summer Movie Club at Peggy Helmerich Library, 5131 E 91st St. Film screenings are a specific kind of shared experience that streaming has made rarer and therefore considerably more valuable. Being in a room full of people seeing something together, especially a documentary, creates a particular kind of conversation afterward that simply does not happen anywhere else. Independent cinema has always been a queer space, and the audience at screenings like this is exactly the crowd worth being around. Show up a few minutes early so you get a good seat. Stay through the credits. Talk to someone on the way out about what you just watched. That is what these evenings are for.
