First Friday Art Crawl in the Tulsa Arts District, which happens once a month and involves the galleries along Archer Street opening their doors, putting out wine, and letting the city walk through and actually look at things together in the same space at the same time. The crowd it pulls is artsy, inclusive, and gay-friendly in the way that Tulsa's arts community tends to be, and the whole evening functions as a genuine neighborhood party with gallery stops woven in between conversations. Walk slowly, because this is the event that rewards slowness and punishes people who rush through it. Look at everything for longer than feels strictly necessary. Find one piece that genuinely stops you and take the time to figure out why it did. Talk to the artist if they're present, because most of them want to talk to you. Buy something if you can, because buying local art is one of the better uses of discretionary income in this city. Then get dinner somewhere on Archer afterward and call it a complete First Friday, because that is exactly what it is.
